HADRIaN’S wall path (UK National Trail), 84 miles, 6 walking days, September 2010
Wallsend – Heddon-on-the-Wall – Chollerford – Once Brewed – Banks – Carisle – Bowness-on-Solway
The Roman Emperor Hadrian started construction of this 80-mile wall in BCE 122, some say to keep out the Scots, others to control immigration and smuggling. The UK National Trail walk is coast-to-coast, albeit shorter than Wainwright’s Coast-to-Coast walk (see separate entry). We walked the Wall in September 2010, mostly in good weather until the last day.
