Himalayas (Nepal): Annapurna and Mustang Valley, 2009

Himalayas (NEPAL): Annapurna and Mustang Valley, 189 miles, 20 walking days, April/May 2009

Annapurna: Besisahar – Bhulbhuli – Gherma – Tal – Thanchok – Pisang – Manang – Letdar – Thorung High Camp – Muktinath – Kagbeni

Mustang Valley: Samar – Ghemi – Lo Manthang – Ghemi – Samar

Annapurna: Jomson – Kalopani – Tatopani

In 2009, my son Mark and his wife Kirsty were based in Kathmandu.  Mark was hired as a trekking consultant by a Nepalese trekking company anxious to explore the possibilities of the trails around the Annapurna Mountains and up into the Mustang Valley.  Mark invited me to join him and thus I came to experience Nepalese tea houses, flimsy suspension bridges, basic dal bhat food, sleeping in a tent again, Asian squat toilets (ugh!), high altitudes and coping with the onset of Altitude Mountain Sickness, continuous beautiful scenery, and negotiating rickety bridges over fast-flowing rivers.  It was all good fun!
