South Downs Way, 2008

South Downs Way (UK National Trail), 100 miles, 4 walking days, October 2008

Eastbourne – Ditchling – Amberley – South Harting – Winchester

This was my first UK National Trail. I walked it solo over four walking days in 2008, just after completing the Isle of Wight Coastal Path. It was an exhilarating walk but marred by bad weather coupled with the fact that most days I was walking into a fairly strong headwind. Retrospectively, it would have been better to walk west to east, Winchester to Eastbourne, to keep the prevailing wind on my back. The highlight of the walk was coming across two fighting bucks early one morning while walking out of Amberley and up to Bignor Hill.
