We’ve been sorting out the hundreds of photographs we took in the ’90s and early ’00s before we finally switched to a digital camera. In so doing, we came across many “Where the hell was this taken?” shots so here’s a light-hearted photographic quiz for you world travellers and armchair sleuths. Can you identify the subject and location in the fourteen shots below? If so, either post a comment (go to Leave a Reply at the bottom of the post) or send me an e-mail.
These first twelve shots go from easy to difficult:
The last two shots took a lot of googling (and associative memory searching) before I finally identified the locations. See if you can name the statue and town, and the name of the beach.

OK, so I think I know where all of them are except number 12! Shall I post my answers and spoil the game?! 😉

No! I meant to add that you and Mark are not allowed to answer publicly but if you want to send me a private e-mail I’ll tell you if you are correct and reveal the answer to number 12.

Why not me? Because I’m too well-travelled?! Haha! OK, I’ll send you an email!

Yes. To paraphrase Johnny Cash:
You’ve been everywhere, man
You’ve been everywhere.
Crossed the deserts bare, man
You’ve breathed the mountain air.
Travel, you’ve had your share, man
You’ve been everywhere.

Kirsty did send me her list and scored thirteen out of fourteen. The name and location of Image 12 eluded her. (She now knows.) Kirsty is my daughter-in-law and she travels the world with my son Mark, visiting many far-flung places, experiencing many exciting adventures, and enduring many endless journeys in old buses, creaking boats, and outrageously decorated tuk-tuks. You can read about their travelling exploits on their travel blog Kathmandu & Beyond.

This is a remarkable and inspired list but, sadly, all identifications are incorrect thus scoring zero out of thirteen. You can redeem yourself, however, by adding what you think Image 5 is. Here’s a clue. It’s not the final resting place of Princess Diana!

Silly me N05 could be the Eden Project in Cornwall or Donald Trump’s hair dresser’s salon

Numbers 1 to 10 are easy and I was involved in identifying 12 to 14 but I’m not sure about number 11. I would say Boston?
